Event volunteers are a vital part of the events team and they provide support at a variety of St John Ambulance Corporate Events throughout the calendar year.

Become a St John Event Volunteer

Vacancies exist for suitably motivated individuals to fill the voluntary position of Crew Member, within the Corporate Events Team. As an event volunteer you will be a vital part of the St John team where you will provide support at a variety of St John Ambulance Corporate Events. If you are interested in event volunteering, our volunteers must have exceptional time management skills and an understanding of how events are run.

Our Event Crew Members will be required to assist and support the corporate events team with the coordination and facilitation on the day of large scale events. Our crew members must be reasonably fit and able to assist with event set up and pack down.

This is not a clinical role.

Event Volunteer main duties and responsibilities

  • Meet and greet attendees, adopting exceptional customer service standards
  • Complete registration and administrative tasks
  • Manage large crowds in a calm and professional manner
  • Liaise with internal and external suppliers
  • Work in accordance with event run sheets
  • Adhere to timeframes
  • Understand the objective and purpose of the event
  • Bump in (set up) & bump out (pack down)
  • Setting up banners and equipment
  • Provide support to the corporate events team where and when required
  • Manage a team of volunteers as required

Skills and qualifications

  • Provide First Aid course completed with St John (provided at no cost)
  • Experience with events
  • Great communication and interpersonal skills
  • A calm manner who works well under pressure, and who is happy to work with last minute changes
  • Ability to work in a large team
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to work on multiple tasks at once with a high attention to detail
  • Good problem solving skills
  • Reasonable fitness level, in order to assist with set up and pack down of events
  • National Police Certificate (obtained in the last 6 months)
Skills you will develop

As an event volunteer working with St John Ambulance, our Crew Members will be given the opportunity to develop excellent event management skills and experience at major events.

The St John Corporate Events have won awards and are well respected within the event industry.

Free Training Available

All the St John even volunteers in Crew Member positions will be given full training on our in-house registration system as well as general event management skills such as registration, crowd control, stage management, exhibition/exhibitor coordination, volunteer management etc.

Our event volunteers will also receive their Provide First Aid certificate at no cost.

Volunteering locations

As St John events take place at a number of venues across the Perth metropolitan area, event volunteers will need to be able to make their own way to and from these events. On occasion, event volunteers may be asked to attend the St John Ambulance head office in Belmont for event briefings.

Recruitment Method

To become a volunteer with St John Ambulance Western Australia, you will be asked to complete an on-line application, including a medical questionnaire and submit a National Police check. The on-line application is available from: http://vip.stjohnambulance.com.au.

Ongoing training

All our volunteers are provided with the necessary training to enable them to carry out their role. To continue to operate in your role, you must maintain the competencies required and an appropriate level of fitness as roles are physically demanding.

Your volunteering for St John Ambulance should not cost you anything. We will reimburse all legitimate out of pocket expenses incurred during your time volunteering with us. You should talk to your supervisor to confirm what expenses you can claim.
