The Volunteer First Aid Awareness Officers role is to support the Wheatbelt Region and St John Ambulance’s goal to make first aid part of every Western Australians life, by delivering a range of first aid awareness programs and encouraging the public to become adequately trained to deliver first aid.

What the role involves

  • Demonstrating and teaching first aid skills at public places and events
  • Encourage the public to complete accredited first aid training
  • Represent St John Ambulance in a positive light to the public
  • Set up and take down the training space, before and after training sessions
  • Support the sub centres within in the region to promote first aid training and kit sales
  • Deliver First Aid Focus to schools and community groups
  • Deliver first aid awareness information sessions to clients as required

Our First Aid Awareness Volunteers

  • Volunteer five (5) hours per month
  • Wear the provided uniform
  • Obtain a Provide First Aid Certificate – free of charge from St John to you

Skills you will develop

Being a Volunteer First Awareness Officer will develop your communication skills and build confidence by allowing you to engage with a wide variety to people. Being part of a large volunteer team will help you connect with other likeminded volunteers in the Wheatbelt Region.

You will also form part of the St John Ambulance Wheatbelt team who attends many public and sporting events annually, and you will belong to a team that really makes a difference in people’s lives.

Recruitment Method

To become a volunteer with St John Ambulance Western Australia, you will be asked to complete an on-line application, including a medical questionnaire and submit a National Police check. The on-line application is available from: http://vip.stjohnambulance.com.au.

Ongoing training

All our volunteers are provided with the necessary training to enable them to carry out their role. To continue to operate in your role, you must maintain the competencies required and an appropriate level of fitness as roles are physically demanding.

All information concerning our volunteers is treated as strictly confidential at all times.

Expenses

Your volunteering for St John Ambulance should not cost you anything. We will reimburse all legitimate out of pocket expenses incurred during your time volunteering with us. You should talk to your supervisor to confirm what expenses you can claim.

Volunteers will be informed of the Occupational Safety and Health requirements applicable to volunteers. Safety Injury and Support Services provide extensive information about their services and policies on the intranet.

Wellbeing & Support Services

St John places a very high value on the health and wellbeing of their volunteers and provides an extensive support network through its confidential Wellbeing and Support program, accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
